1Stops working after one seasonMar 21, 2010
I've had two. Each lasted about three months. The Mosquito Magnet company makes a fortune off trying to help you fix them with quick clear valves, which don't help. Only buy one if you want it for one summer only.

3Good While it LastFeb 01, 2010
Purchased first Mosquito Magnet around 2000. I have owned the Liberty and Defender( 5 total). Both caught many mosquitoes and did not catch a lot of other insect types. The technology is good but reliability is poor.
The last one I purchased was reconditioned and would not restat after the first propane tank was used. Closest service to Texas was Rhode Island. Restarting was a problem with every one I owned.
Rather expensive when you consider initial cost, plus replacing propane tank
and attractant every three weeks. Also, requires blow-out with CO2 with every tank change.
I'm ready to try another brand/type.

3Fiddly gadgetSep 27, 2009
Well, on the plus side this machine is actually designed to catch mosquitos and not other insects like the rubbish light traps which kill all useful insects apart from mosquitos.

The machine actually does work, although the catch rate (1-10 mosquitos/day) is not as high as some might expect. But then, most people overestimate the number of mosquitos. Also, the blood suckers have evolved to recognize mammals, and mimicking a mammal is not easy.

The problem is that the machine is fiddly to run, lots of troubleshooting required, the fan that sucks the mosquitos in seems to be weak, so considering the cost this is not very practical unless one loves fiddling with gadgets as a hobby. The amount of time required to make this thing run is just to high, you might as well build your own home made mosquito trap.

So I would advise to buy a more costly, better engineered and more reliable machine. This is simply to unreliable for the money - I spent lots of time to get it to run and I am tired of studying their trouble shooting web page.

1MM is junk and a RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!Sep 14, 2009
Purchased a MM Liberty at Home Depot two weeks ago (Aug 09). Set it up in 10 minutes and easy to start up. After about 20 minutes the light goes from red to green. After an hour or so, the unit had flashing red lights. I re-read the directions and checklists. I restarted the unit 3 or 4 times and ran out of time to mess around. The next day, I changed out the batteries and cleaned out the unit with CO2 as the directions recommends for regular maintenance. I thought maybe I had a bad propane tank. Then I had different flashing lights. I gave up for the day and the unit sat for a couple more days till I had more time to throw away. Now I had about 3-4 hours invested in this silly thing. Then the weekend came around and I called the customer service line. I did what they recommended and got more flashing lights. I then called again and they recommended I send them the unit back VIA UPS. As Home Depot is right down the street, I took the unit back and got another. Guess what, more frustration and the same thing happened. I didn't wait too much longer and brought back this expense piece of junk. Don't be a victim like me. I never write reviews, but this thing is bad news. I have little kids and thought by buying something expensive, it would work better...don't get caught in this trap and stay away....this is a rip off.

2Mosuito Magnet DefenderSep 01, 2009
Very disappointed. The amount paid is not worth it. You have to get a new tank about every 2 weeks and we are still getting "eaten up" every time we are outside.
